Questions? We can help
What does a cavity look like?
Cavities vary in appearance. Often they appear as small holes, chips, or dark spots on your tooth. Others have a chalky appearance on the enamel of your tooth. Cavities can be very small or encompass the entire tooth surface. Routine cleanings and exams will ensure no cavity goes unnoticed!
Does a cavity go away on its own?
No. Once decay is present, it can’t be fixed on its own. However, with proper dental hygiene and care, you can keep the decay from spreading and getting worse.
Do all cavities need a filling?
If you are in pain or have an obvious cavity, a dental filling is usually necessary. However, it’s possible the decay has spread so far that a filling won’t be enough — you may need a crown, root canal, or extraction. If you have a very small cavity, your dentist may recommend keeping an eye on it for 6 months rather than immediately filling it.
Does getting a dental filling hurt?
No! A filling doesn’t affect the nerves of your tooth, so no nerves = no pain. To ensure your complete comfort, we’ll administer a numbing gel and local anesthetic before your treatment. Your mouth will feel numb for a few hours after the filling, but you’ll be back to normal in no time.
How long does a dental filling last?
A filling typically lasts anywhere from 7-20 years, depending on the location of the filling, the size of the filling, and your dental hygiene habits.
